NOTICE TO CUSTOMER: UNLICENSED HANDYMAN SERVICES
State law (California Business and Professions Code § 7048, as amended by AB 2622 effective January 1, 2025) allows unlicensed individuals to perform casual, minor, or inconsequential construction or repair work without a contractor’s license, provided the following conditions are met:
- The total aggregate contract price for labor, materials, and all other items does not exceed $1,000.
- No building permit is required for the work.
- The work is performed solely by the individual (no employees, helpers, or subcontractors are involved).
- The project is not divided into smaller contracts to evade the $1,000 limit.
I am not a licensed contractor with the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB). If your project exceeds $1,000, requires a permit, or involves more complex work, you should hire a licensed contractor. Using an unlicensed individual for work outside this exemption may limit your remedies in case of disputes, and CSLB may not be able to assist you.
